Privacy Policy

How CellClaw handles your data — with transparency and respect for your privacy.

Effective: March 26, 2026

In short: CellClaw is an on-device AI assistant. Your data stays on your phone. We do not operate backend servers, and we do not collect, store, or sell your personal information.

01 Introduction

CellClaw ("the App") is an open-source, autonomous AI agent that runs natively on your Android device. This Privacy Policy explains how the App collects, uses, and protects information when you use it.

By using CellClaw, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the App.

02 Information We Collect

CellClaw is designed with a privacy-first architecture. The App itself does not collect or transmit personal data to CellClaw developers or any third-party analytics service.

However, to function as an AI assistant, the App may access the following on-device data based on permissions you grant:

  • Contacts, calendar events, and call logs
  • SMS and messaging content
  • Camera, microphone, and device sensors
  • Files and clipboard content
  • Screen content and app state
  • Location data (if enabled)
  • Notification content

All of this data is processed locally on your device and is only used to fulfill your requests to the AI assistant.

03 AI Provider Communication

CellClaw connects directly from your device to the AI provider you choose (such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini, or OpenRouter). When you interact with the assistant:

  • Your prompts and relevant context are sent directly to your selected AI provider
  • Communication happens device-to-provider with no intermediary servers
  • Your API key is stored locally on your device and is never shared with CellClaw developers
  • Each provider has its own privacy policy and data handling practices

Important: You are responsible for reviewing and agreeing to the privacy policy of your chosen AI provider. CellClaw does not control how providers process the data you send them.

04 Data Storage

All app data, including conversation history, memory, preferences, and cached content, is stored locally on your Android device. CellClaw does not operate any backend servers or cloud storage.

  • Conversation logs remain on your device until you delete them
  • Memory and context data are stored in local databases (Room/SQLite)
  • API keys and credentials are stored in Android's encrypted storage
  • Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data

05 Permissions

CellClaw requests Android permissions to enable its assistant capabilities. Each permission is optional and can be granted or revoked at any time through your device settings. The App will adapt its functionality based on the permissions you grant.

Permissions are only used to fulfill actions you explicitly request or approve. CellClaw's autonomy profiles (Supervised, Balanced, Autonomous) give you control over how much independent action the assistant can take.

06 Third-Party Services

CellClaw does not include third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or tracking services. The only external communication is with the AI provider you configure.

If you use the browser tool or web-related features, standard internet traffic will occur as directed by your requests.

07 Children's Privacy

CellClaw is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has used the App in a way that raises privacy concerns, please contact us.

08 Security

CellClaw employs on-device security measures to protect your data:

  • API keys are stored using Android's encrypted shared preferences
  • The App runs within Android's application sandbox
  • No data is transmitted to CellClaw-operated servers
  • The source code is open for public audit under the Apache 2.0 license

09 Your Rights

Because CellClaw stores data locally on your device, you have full control:

  • View, modify, or delete any data stored by the App at any time
  • Revoke any permission through Android settings
  • Clear app data or uninstall to remove all stored information
  • Inspect the open-source code to verify data handling practices

10 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
